What is 100 Bloggers?
100 Bloggers is an attempt to get more kinky people to create
blogs, which are a kind of easy-to-use online journal. Specifically, I'm
hoping to get 100 people to create a blog, even if they don't (ultimately)
end up maintaining the blogs.
What is a blog?
"Blog" is short for "web log." Web logs started
with people collecting interesting links they found on the web and emailing
them off to their friends with some commentary. Since then, blogs have
become a much more robust kind of electronic publishing tool. More specifically,
blogs have come to be used as a kind of online journal or diary, in which
people record whatevereverything from deep thoughts about current
affairs, to commentary on interesting websites, to what they watched on
TV.
What are some examples of blogs?
A few kinky folk are already blogging. You can check out my blog at http://lthredge.com/diaries/current.shtml,
or you can check out the excellent blogs Singletails (http://singletails.blogspot.com)
or Leather Adventures (http://www.leatheradventures.com).
What are you asking me to do?
I'm asking you to create a blog of your own. It's free, easy, and painless.
And it can make a difference. It won't take a lot of time, it won't
take a lot of technical knowledge, and it won't take any money at all.
All it takes is your willingness to participate in a project that you
could describe as either a wild and crazy experiment or as an attempt
to create a greater sense of online leather community, debunk porn images
of how leathermen live, and record the lived experience of leatherfolk.
What if I don't want the whole world reading my
prviate thoughts?
Perfectly understandable, but no reason not to create a blog. You can
create the blog just for yourself. If no one has the URL, no one will
find it. And, depending on which blog service you use, you can even password
protect it. While I'd LOVE to see everyone posting and sharing their thoughts
in very public blogs, I am much more interested in simply getting people
to think about blogging in general. So, if you want it to stay private,
go ahead and create a bloglet me know you made one, but don't give
me the URL.
What do I do next?
Check out the other areas of this site if you need more convincing:
- "Why?" will give you some sense of why I think this
project is not simply worthwhile for all of us, but why it is, moreover,
crucially important. It will also give you some good reasons for why
you should blog.
- "Who?" will list the newly created blogs as we inch
towards 100 and will encourage you to see yourself as a blogger.
- "How?" has all the info you need to get started,
from a basic introduction to blogging tools to tips to develop the habit
of blogging.
- "When?" describes my totally idealistic time frame
for this project.
- "Help!" will point you to some more resources to
look into.
